  • MONA – Museum of Old and New Art

I was originally planning a foodie only tour of Hobart since my stay was only two and a half days here, but my brother (I think he was the first) asked me if I was going to visit MONA, and that if I wasn’t, that I should go there anyway.

Then I had a few other people talk about it, including my taxi driver, so I thought, hey, it’s a cool place, it featured in Restaurant Australia, and everyone knows about it, so I may as well get cultured while I’m at it.

I did a walk past the information booth on the first day that I was here to enquire the minimum time I would need to get through the museum, since I was very, very time limited with all my restaurant bookings. The lady said that whole day was best, otherwise 4 hours was recommended, and that at a minimum, I’d need two hours. Well, that was interesting. Not being interested in art, I figured I could do this in two hours. However, as my first day was spent getting to know Hobart city, I had to leave it for my second day, and the only time I really had was between my 12PM Franklin booking and my 6PM Aloft booking. Given that lunch generally takes me about an hour, that gave me 5 hours, or so I thought. (more…)

  • Franklin

Yay, Franklin! While Franklin has always been on my Hobart list, my excitement grew recently after discovering that a chef I am aware of (but didn’t actively stalk at the time) moved here and started working at the restaurant. I would have loved to come here at night for their full dining experience, but because I had far too many places to go and not enough time, I ended up shuffling this one to lunch simply because it was open for lunch while my other restaurants were dinner only. That bumped Templo right off this visit, but maybe next time…. (more…)

  • Melbourne 2017, the post I never got to make

I can’t believe it. Finally, a Melbourne trip that I’m going to write up properly. It must be Christmas! Or shortly thereafter. It also took a lot of planning and a 4 day weekend to get to this stage, so here goes nothing! A blog about my second favourite city in Australia.

  • Kuro Kisume – The Table

There’s classy, then there’s classy. Want the ultimate exclusive experience? It doesn’t get more on-the-surface-looks-so-pretentious-and-foodie-exclusive than this. But let me tell you now, it’s the friendliest, silliest, laughter filled and delicious eating experiences you can get. (more…)

  • Supernormal

Can you believe that I also have not posted about Supernormal?? I remember really, really wanting to go here, and braved the queues for it. Then, my first experience was ordinary. But on this revisit (because my friend wanted to try it), I really liked it! I figure what I ordered must have been more to my taste, which has a huge impact when the cuisine type is Asian since I’m so picky about it.

  • Embla

Embla and Bar Liberty were both restaurants that I really wanted to go to (though I guess they’re more wine bars, but that’s a minor technicality since they serve up delicious grub), and about equal on my piority list. In the end, I made my decision via the restaurants’ proximity to my location at a set time. As a result, Embla it was, since Bar Liberty appears to be out in Fitzroy.

It was a win/win to make a short notice decision because they’re walk-in only (my favourite type of restauant), and it was a Monday, which meant it was guaranteed to be less busy. We were seated at the kitchen counter, so away we ordered!

  • Cumulus Inc

Can you believe I’ve not made a Cumulus Inc post before this? Even though it’s my favourite accessible restaurant in Melbourne? Wow. I guess I finally found the time to do so, though yes, at the expense of some other stuff. I’m meant to be doing more food prep at the moment, but I know that if I don’t get all these posts out before the new year, they’re going to get forgotten like all the other times that I’ve gone to Melbourne and never posted about it. So I’m trying really, really hard!
