  • Why does drawing hurt so much

    That’s it, that’s the post.

  • Damian Lewis

When will I get better at colour accuracy??? When I can I capture expressions accurately???

Also I still hate doing digital only from scratch, it’s too hard!

  • Matthew Gray Gubler

First drawing in months, couldn’t draw an original character so went with a character study instead.

Definitely not my best, it’s passable though. His messy tousled hair was a challenge!

  • Sydney 2023

Ah, finally, my first round of travel after many years of staying put! Though, with pigeons to look after now, I hadn’t actually thought about planning any trips, instead, this just happened to be a work trip where I tacked a few extra days for myself to explore.

What does Sydney look like post COVID? How much of what I remember would still be there? How many of my favourite places would have closed down?

  • Komeyui Melbourne

I only really wanted to choose one restaurant to book while in Melbourne, and Komeyui has been on my list for several years and seems to regularly pop up as a great restaurant to visit. Some of the research I did shows that this omakase would be interesting, since they also offer kaiseki options, so I wanted to see what dishes they’d have on offer!

  • Petermen

Haha, I’m so silly for starting a post about a seafood restaurant using a picture of a flat white! But there’s a reason for that, I was here for brunch, and, the coffee was surprisingly good! I’ve never had coffee this pleasant from one before (including Saint Peter’s Artificer batch brew; that was nice but not at an Artificer level).

  • Gildas

First there was Firedoor, and now there’s Gildas, a new Lennox Hastie establishment!

My trip to Sydney was rather impromptu, and I found myself without any plans on a Friday night. So what do I do? I google Gildas to see if they’re walk in friendly, and lo and behold, I got myself a spot!

  • Sydney 2023 – Chaco Bar

Wow, has it been forever since I posted about a restaurant! In this Sydney trip, I wanted to do a mix of new and old. Technically, this is both, since I’ve been to the old Chaco Bar, but not this new one in this new location! It was interesting to see what was the same and what was different!

  • Imagine a communal tea shop

Well, imagine a cafe, but one that serves tea in the most interesting way. I never order tea at cafes because I feel it’s not worth the money, and if it is, you have to spend at least a couple of hours to actually get good tea since you can get multiple steeps from them.

So, imagine there’s a tea on the menu called “communal tea” and it only costs $1. It uses really good tea (imagine Kuura Corp, Bitterleaf, etc) and the concept is sort of like batch brew for coffee – you get one cup of whatever’s in the pot. It might be the first steep, it could be the eighth (until of course it gets changed out because all the flavour and colour are gone), you don’t know – but it will taste nice and you don’t need to commit to staying there for a bazillion steeps. The reason why it doesn’t cost a lot is because you don’t know exactly where in the steeping count it’s at.

And you can have a few on rotation! White, black, pu-erh… I think it’d be a fun concept!

  • Photobooth

    Loool what have I done!

I was making funny faces during pigeon selfies and decided I should give some of those faces to my characters. I think it’s a terrible pic that looks like it was drawn by a child, but I did put effort into three panels so I’m proud of it anyway!

They are so out of character, it’s hilarious!
