  • Hello again, Singapore

After my Cebu stint, the trip back involved an overnight stopover at Singapore. There were aspects of this place that I absolutely loved before so I made them my first priority!

  • Cebu, Philippines 2018

My adventures this year have lead me to a place I didn’t think I’d ever get to visit – the Philippines. Even rarer that I’d end up away from the capital city. But here I was, with a super short trip to Cebu.

The way there wasn’t overly complex, but did take some time. Also, I confirmed that flying budget isn’t my thing. There’s actually nothing wrong with the flights themselves, which were quite pleasant. It was just that I was used to all the mod-cons of full service – inflight entertainment, USB charging ports, and a constant offering of free water. Time sure crawls when there’s no distractions in a restricted space!

One quirk I was bemused by was that my first leg from Perth to Kuala Lumpur had a plane decorated both inside and outside, with anime style girls – an ad for a Chinese mobile game called “Girls Frontline” apparently.

I had a five hour stopover at Kuala Lumpur airport. In order to save money, I didn’t opt for lounge entry. Instead, I’d planned ahead and packed myself a good book to pass the time.

  • Reine’s hospital adventures… again!

When it rains, it pours. I thought I had my one hospital visit, when something much smaller but really annoying decided to happen. I had some sort of pimple-like thing right under my right eyebrow, and I didn’t think too much of it at the time, until after a day or two it made my whole eyelid red. I still figured it’d just heal, so I didn’t do anything until a week later it didn’t get any better and instead, started to swell.

After a visit the doctor, I wasn’t any closure to knowing how long it would take for the lump to go away. All the doc figured was that it was probably some sort of cyst, and I was prescribed antibiotics.

A few days passed, and the condition got worse, and I wasn’t able to open my eye properly, especially in the mornings. Eventually everyone at work became super concerned too, and after a doctor friend took a look, she recommended that I go straight to the hospital. (more…)

  • Avocado plant progress

A month after being transplanted into a pot:

Older sibling with lucky dead grasshopper looks to be doing very well overall.

Younger sibling on the other hand, somehow managed to put all its energy into making big leaves, of which, the first leaf it ever had developed some sort of browning (didn’t look bug eaten, not sure if diseased) so I amputated it. A little unsure how well this fellow is doing.

  • Serendipitous cafe encounters

I go to a lot of cafes. A lot. But in all my visits, today is only the second time I’ve had a significant interaction with a complete stranger – the first time was in Adelaide meeting a bona fide snob. Fleeting encounters are plentiful, such as butting into a conversation about the cost of stainless steel straws and handmade metal spoons, but ones where I actually seem to hold a two sided conversation with someone I’ve never met before, are few and far between.

Today, at a cafe that had only been open for a couple of weeks, I decided, against my better judgement, that instead of going through a caffeine withdrawal phase, I’d get my usual trio of coffees. It just happened to be a very busy period at the cafe, so I popped myself on one of the communal tables. The seat I’d happened to choose had taken me past a person who sat at the end of the table, notebook and pens out, a book, as well as a very vintage looking camera. It was all going as per my normal cafe ritual of playing on my phone, and receiving my many coffees in quick succession, then taking pictures of them. I’m pretty sure the guy looked at me as soon as I started snapping away, but didn’t yet engage in conversation. After the photos, I began sipping away at my espresso. It wasn’t until I unexpectedly spotted a nice setup for one of my coffees, at the same time that the cafe staff was replacing a bottle of water for the table, leading to an awkward moment where the staff paused to allow me to take my photo, and me excusing myself for making a nuisance of myself having rearranged things on the table, that this fellow offered me his camera. • My little avocado babies

Some avocados I bought a while back ended up not going soft after a week, and when I finally cut into them, they looked like they were trying to sprout, so I looked after them and they started growing!

That one is the “bigger” sibling. It has big, bright green leaves.

This is the younger sibling. It took longer to sprout; I had to peel away the shell of the seed. It’s got a slightly thicker stem and possibly the same height or marginally taller, but smaller and darker leaves.

I hope these grow up OK… unless I get bored first!

  • I did it again

Some epic HP remaining right there.

Apparently I made a few high scores this time too!

I was just trying to get the last Osprey achievement of 4 blue events by sector 5….

Now to turn off my gaming computer for who knows how long again 🙂

    BACK TO REAL LIFE

  • FTL Victory!

Decided to play some stuff over the Easter break, turns out FTL is just as frustrating as ever! But it has some fancy new things that it didn’t have several years back.

All the ships are still incredibly difficult to play with, but behold, my second victory! lol

I also didn’t realise I never finished New Game Plus on Bastion. So I did that too. Yeah.
