  • Eat Drink Perth

I think my blogging will slow down over the next few months, we’ll see! I have become somewhat permanently poor so I haven’t been going to as many cafes lately.

Still, Eat Drink Perth happened as part of Good Food Month, which happens here in April instead of October (my Sydneysiderer strikes again!). I found out because one of the cafes I follow (rocks 2 Slayers but only open Monday – Friday) was running some coffee events during this time – how could I not say no!

    Fancy a Filter?

  • Another Sydney coffee crawl

Since my Sydney visit was a pure foodie adventure, it was important that I drank lots of coffee, this time without almost dying from caffeine overdose. It was a combination of old and new!

Elbow Room espresso. Mecca’s Blackforest blend and a Pedro Moreno (Santa Barbara, Honduras) on filter.

  • Behind the Machine

I visit Exchange so frequently that I think I can get away with a few things, though I do always ask nicely to make sure. Most of the time. I’ve always been envious of people who can take really cool shots at cafes, so I decided this was my best chance to do so too. I had the perfect excuse of testing out a new lens!

  • Sydney Coffee Rush 2015

Yep, a rush, not a crawl. Though I couldn’t actually rush because I was a little too enthusiastic about coffee, and managed to poison myself on my very first day of adventure! That was not only embarrassing as I couldn’t finish a meal at my favourite soba restaurant, but also had to battle to not collapse in the middle of nowhere!

That aside, I think I will write this up by cafe in no order except in which they appear in my uploads!

  • A lot of coffee and hispterish places

So having visited Oranjezicht City Farm Markets, it was time to do other hipster things, like chase food trucks and find new cool places. Managed to visit Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants which is an amazing place as there’s a room full of carcasses. They specialise in meats, however on the day I went, a food truck called El Burro was also going to be there at night – so why not! It was especially enticing because they had ceviche on the menu as well.

  • Journey… to the not so West

    Hello Perth!

So nice to finally meet you, having first wanted to see you in all your glory many many years ago after your most amazing restaurant featured on Masterchef – Greenhouse.

I had only known a week earlier that I’d get the opportunity to say hi, and had scrambled to shortlist a cafe and restaurant selection for only two days. The internet recommended Standing Room Only, plus some others, but I knew the key to the crawl lay in the charming baristas.

  • All the blood oranges!

So I have just completed 6 days of no coffee, just cause. Turns out day 2 is when the body suffers some crazy withdrawal – I had a pounding headache for most of the day.

And of course, here is my obligatory post of coffee:

  • Death by caffeine, Cronut Jenga

My friend visited Adelaide, and being foodies and all, plus the fact that I wanted to experience death by caffeine, lead to us going on a grand adventure of all things tasty.

Friday was super epic and involved trying to consume as many coffees as possible, so here was my list for the day, assuming one filter has more caffeine than espresso and therefore is more than “one coffee”:

    Exchange Specialty Coffee: 1.5 filters

    Please Say Please: 1 espresso

    Coffee Branch: 1 espresso

Little Seeds Pop Up: 1 espresso

Argo on the Square: 1 piccolo

    Hey Jupiter: 1 flat white

Total count in 1 day: approx 7 coffees! Woohoo!

We had an awesome moment of cronut jenga and kind of spilt sugar everywhere when our tower fell (twice!) but it was so fun, and the fallen cronut was still within the 3 second rule PLUS it ended up on my umbrella so it was still good. Very tasty, loved the texture because donut dough is too heavy, so croissant dough to make donuts is genius!

  • Living the radelaide

So work has called me to Adelaide, to like, do things and stuff, including eat, cook and explore. Oh, and actually work.

But during non work hours it turns out I really don’t have time to work on the story that will never end. Instead I’m constantly debating where and what to eat, which cafes to go to, and whether I can find enough food to cook up something and somehow save money.

So my experiment has been living without “sugar” (have honey and agave syrup instead), making wholemeal spelt pancakes and messing with other things, such as undercooking fish 🙂

Here are some of the things I’ve done. I wish I had a nice picture of some food from a cafe called A Mothers Milk – they make some amazing baked eggs mmmmmmmmm but instead all I’ve got is a very bad shot from the outside:
