  • Aesop vs Lush

    HAPPY NEW YEARS

Since it’s a new year I should start replacing some of my skin care products. I have years-old Body Shop stuff, but I want to replace it with fresh stuff. The thing I like about Lush is that they use real fruit and stuff, so it feels better – smashing bananas and whatnot into my face.

Aesop also uses real ingredients but is a more high end product, so therefore is more expensive. However, some items are cheaper (compared to Lush). So this time I will have a combination of Lush and Aesop and phase out most of the Body Shop.

… and last year I figured I was poor and would stop buying these things. Hey, I’m downgrading! Gak, I will miss you.

  • Encasa Deli (and tower defense)

So there’s this relatively new place that opened up in the city called Encasa Deli. I reckon it’s the little baby of the Encasa restaurant, which I’ve been to a few times. At first I didn’t actually go in as I wasn’t sure if they served food, and lunch breaks at work are too short (plus I eat super slow) for me to have investigated. However, I decided I had to go as I was getting more and more curious about the place. I love delis. It has a relatively small display cabinet full of stuff, but wow, olives, hams, sausages, cheese and fish! I really need to buy some stuff there. I’ve now bought their “Pa amb tomaquet” twice, which is basically a load of jamon slices on a tomato smeared baguette. That was sooooo delicious! I had to try it twice to make sure it wasn’t a once-off the first time.

In fact, I think I converted a work colleague as he went there and loved their Pepito, which was an eye fillet with egg and some other stuff. He said it was really good and also impressed that they served paella after 12pm. I should one day try some of that too! And maybe buy 2 slices of one of their jamons which sells for $346 per kilo or something. Oh, and also to see their mini-grocery place in the back.

In other news, I love tower defense games. They break my brain, and I bought Robo Defense for my phone too. Wheeeeeeeeee!

  • iiNode and the P

So today I found out that iiNet bought Internode, which now makes the iiNode machine. That was very exciting news indeed, and probably means a lot of changes to everything internet related and another attack from TPG prevented. Yaaaay!

Also, I ate two fruit mince pies today. I have a weird relationship with fruit mince pies. I don’t particularly like the flavour but I do enjoy them as they only come out once a year. The ones from Pattison’s Pattiserie are the best. Can’t remember what the ones from Baker’s Delight taste like, but the ones from Workshop Espresso are a little too dry for my liking (also they are $4), and the ones from Becasse in Westfield Sydney are too moist and large, becoming a rather overwhelming experience for me. Since the Pattison’s are only $2.50 and have just the right balance of fruit and jam for the perfect size and moistness, they are the most awesome 🙂

And there’s more P in the fact that I now have half a wardrobe full of Pilgrim clothes. I like that store, and Portmans for some reason. They have really pretty stuff and it gets way cheaper than RRP, though technically they’re still a little on the expensive side.

    PIEEEEEE

  • Welcome to the gingerbread family

I would almost make an ice cream sandwich pun, but that would have been very bad.

Went to Swallow this morning in the hopes of interesting nibbles. Alas, there was no fruit mince pie, but there was a gingerbread family to be had! It wasn’t until I got home and opened it that I realised that it was an entire family for real.

  • Galaxus Nexy

    Hooray for the Galaxy Nexus!

Finally got released today, so I decided to visit the (apparently) single Telstra store to go check the price of one. I was thinking about buying it online as I was worried the outright price would have been over $900, but I got a mostly pleasant surprise when I found out it was actually much cheaper than that.

However, Telstra was quite fail, claiming they were incredibly busy that day –  when there seemed to be only one person “qualified”  to sell contracts to people. Everyone else was just a sales rep who couldn’t actually tell me how long the warranty on my phone is. I’ll quite safely assume it’s one year. There was another person there who was after the Galaxy Nexus, and had apparently been waiting for half an hour to get his hands on one. Eventually he was ushered off to a dark corner to sign his life away, but luckily the sales people realised all I wanted to do was buy it outright, not sign a contract, so they said I could line up and talk to a lady who could do the “simple”  things.

  • QUAY

Last night my brother, his friends and I went to Quay. Finally been to Quay! This post will probably contain some incoherent excitement, but whatever. Apart from needing to visit Rockpool, my eating life is complete…  almost.

I had been called in on short notice because a friend of my brother’s had pulled out, and no one else could fill the spot. So what if I was secretly hoping I could go! Muahahaha. It was definitely an awesome experience, what made it even more interesting and eye opening was the differences between Quay and Tetsuya’s, and even Rockpool Bar & Grill since they’re the only really super fancy places I’ve been to. So this might even have a little bit of comparing between the restaurants, just because.

  • Logi + techs

I did some mostly-impulse shopping and I blame my brother for some of it  🙂

I managed to take some pictures of my Ultrabook,  though it comes with so many names and it doesn’t help that I always try and call it a netbook,  so it actually comes out of my mouth as net-note-laptop-ultra-zenbook or a variant of that.

It’s so shiny and thin!!!! The first thing I did when I walked into JB Hi-fi (because I am old fashioned and need to hold it and take it home) was head straight to it and feel the temperature. I must have looked like a nerd! Or not. On the adapter it had felt pretty hot,  so I was a little worried about whether it’d cook and burn everything. After fiddling with it for a few days now,  the only time it got me worried was playing Skyrim on low quality for about 10 minutes. Other than that,  I love the SSD and sleekness. Do I believe in love at first sight? Only for random luxury items!

There was also a Logitech sale that my brother pointed out to me. I had been considering buying a spare mouse for a while,  but never bothered. But since I was on a spending spree,  I figured a good mouse for $19 was too good to pass up. Just in case my current mouse dies. You never know! While I was at it,  I was also in the market for new earphones with a mic. Mic compulsory. So there were some Ultimate Ears 400vi,  so I bought them. I originally had my eye on some Audio Technica CKS55i cause THEY ARE RED,  but these came up and my brother says the UEs are really good. So I ended up with that too,  and they were shipped super fast!

Now these new earphones are funny because they don’t yet fit my ears. I hope I got the bud size right,  since I tend to fail at a lot of these things. They are a lot warmer and bass-ier than my old cheapo $20 ATs,  so I’m sure I’ll grow to love these too. They also isolate noise moreso than my old ones,  so currently I’m half deaf and yelling at everyone. Probably means I can’t walk around with these in my ears either;  my psychicness is only so good at warning me of oncoming invisible trucks and the like. Ugh.

  • Oyster flavours and Zenbooks

So for the last few days I’ve been getting the flavour of oyster in my mouth. These haven’t been cravings – just that my mouth suddenly tastes like the flavour of oyster, which isn’t really pleasant. It’s too fishy and no nice sauce taste, and most of the time there’s that hint of oyster guts. I’m not crazy at all. However,  I should eat some oysters at some point to get rid of this feeling.

Also,  after much yes no yes no, I decided to go get myself a fancy shiny Asus Zenbook,  the UX21 (the better one). Pictures to come! Can’t do it right now as it’s so gloomy that it’s just not right for a photoshoot. Though I can’t figure out whether or not I can photoshoot after a day or few of taking it around and smashing it everywhere.

So it’s just a wall of text today!  😀

  • Swallow + Skyrim bday goodness

Swallow is an amazing little cafe. It has awesome kicking coffee, possibly as good or better than some of the cafes in the city! So strong and tasty, with good food too.

And then my super crazy lovely boyfriend gave me Skyrim without warning, so now I have to play it too 🙂

Also today in the city while I was trying to buy juice, some old man asked me if I had $4. I said no, so then he asked me if I had $3. I said no again, and went to buy my drink. Then, from the other side, some old lady approached and from what I heard, it sounded like she was asking the old man if he had $3. It was such a LOL moment! And also why I hate the city sometimes. The look when you refuse to give people money obviously shows they don’t need it in the first place.

  • WTB phone that defends marines in SC

I will use the voice to text to plan out my gaming! Totally! Yeah!

In all srsness I would like this phone with its ice cream sand witchy goodness.

I also got a new headset and I think it’s this one, but I’m a bad so I wouldn’t know. It’s very comfortable and apparently my voice sounds more like me now 🙂

    Last of all…

Happy Lab opened in Westfield Sydney! I totally went crazy since it’s all science-y sugary goodness. Bought random ones where I liked the flask shapes and flavours. Wheeee!
